Working with industry and partner agencies to disrupt criminality and prevent criminal gain.
The NaVCIS Leisure team was established as a result of a partnership with the UK leisure industry.
Bringing together the industry body (National Caravan Council) and the two consumer organisations (The Camping and Caravanning Club and The Caravan and Motorhome Club) they established the Caravan Safety and Security Group (CSSG), which funds the team.
Our role
The Leisure team provides a point of contact for industry, and police forces both in the UK and across the world. The UK operates a voluntary Central Registration and Identification Scheme (CRiS) for the registration of caravans. The Leisure team is the police point of contact for this scheme.
The team supports the ongoing development of the VINCHIP RFID system – a unique covert RFID identification system, used to allow prompt identification of caravans and motorhomes.
Working with UK Government through its support of the All Party Parliamentary Group allows an input at Government level to promote safety and relevant changes to legislation.
As a member of the National Towing Working Group NaVCIS has a direct means of liaising with a wide variety of organisations whose members use the strategic roads network as part of their business, and this involves strong links with Highways England who manage this network.
Support
The Leisure team provides training and support to police forces across the UK and beyond, working alongside police and other agencies, on road checks to provide advice to road users and law enforcement where necessary.
Our team is nationally recognised through our:
- support of intelligence led police operations
- inspections of suspected stolen caravans and motorhomes
- identification of stolen or cloned leisure vehicles
- provision of evidence to support prosecution of offenders
Advice and support for the consumer is key to increasing safety and reducing crime. Our NaVCIS Leisure officer attends industry events to provide independent advice to consumers with regard to security products and safety equipment.
Working closely with manufacturers across the whole industry, NaVCIS works to support and nurture the develop of security devices and equipment.
We work with NaVCIS Ports officers to monitor the export of caravans and leisure vehicles from the UK, maintaining a record and reporting these exports to the CRiS database.
The Leisure team provides a point of contact for UK police, law enforcement and international enquiries for a wide variety of enquiries relating to leisure vehicles.
